Ambulatory Anesthesiology

Montefiore Einstein Ambulatory Anesthesiology specializes in providing comprehensive patient-centered perioperative anesthesia care for adults and children undergoing same-day outpatient surgeries at our state-of-the-art Hutchinson Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). With expertise in complex cases, we provide anesthesia for more than 15,000 annual ambulatory surgeries at Hutchinson ASC, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the perioperative process. Using the most advanced anesthetic techniques and technologies, multi-modal analgesia that help our patients recover faster and more completely after surgery. We are committed to providing the highest quality care, efficient operating room utilization, ideal surgical conditions, and rapid recovery with minimal, negative side effects so our patients can recover safely at home.

Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine

Our Critical Care Medicine physicians work alongside board-certified surgeons to conduct leading-edge research and provide advanced, world-renowned surgical critical care medicine for critically ill patients. Our Critical Care clinician-scientists have created a digital health database to improve the quality of our patient care and elevate our clinical research methods. We are also a world leader in the treatment and prevention of muscle weakness in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) through early rehabilitation.

Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology

In partnership with the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care, our renowned cardiothoracic anesthesiologists utilize the most advanced equipment and techniques to deliver high-level perioperative care for a diverse population undergoing complex cardiothoracic and leading-edge structural heart procedures. We’re ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery according to U.S. News & World Report and as one of the only Mitral Valve Repair Reference Centers in the United States.

Endoscopic & Advanced Endoscopic Anesthesiology

Montefiore Einstein’s Endoscopic and Advanced Endoscopic Anesthesiology services include gastrointestinal endoscopy, advanced pulmonary endoscopy and pre-bariatric surgery. Our endoscopic anesthesia service is a highly dynamic service that works in partnership with the Department of Medicine’s Division of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases and the Division of Pulmonary Medicine to ensure each patient is cared for through a multidisciplinary lens.

General Anesthesiology

General Anesthesiology serves as the foundation of clinical services in the Department of Anesthesiology. It comprises a team of board certified faculty who provide anesthesia services for a range of surgeries and procedures in the fields of ambulatory surgery, bariatrics, endoscopy, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology, oromaxillofacial, plastics, urology, vascular and pediatrics. The Division offers a concierge anesthesia service which guides patients through their operative experience with a personalized approach.

Multidisciplinary Pain Management

Home to one of the most recognized academic pain practices and fellowship programs in the country, the Montefiore Einstein Multidisciplinary Pain Program (MMPP) at the Hutchinson Campus offers chronic pain management evaluation and treatment in a state-of-the-art facility. MMPP focuses on non-opiate and other minimally invasive techniques to alleviate patients’ pain and improve their quality of life. Our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Pain Medicine Fellowship Program is the largest PMR Pain Medicine Program in the country accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Neuroanesthesiology

Neuroanesthesiology provides high-quality perioperative care for our patients with neurological diseases undergoing treatments in the operating room, interventional radiology suite and intensive care unit. Our neuroanesthesia team is an integral part of Montefiore Einstein’s Stern Stroke Center and uses the latest intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and anesthetic techniques for patients who have experienced acute stroke and other neurological conditions. We’re ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery according to U.S. News & World Report.

Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA)

Montefiore Einstein Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) provides state-of-the-art periprocedural anesthesia care for patients undergoing a wide range of procedures performed outside of traditional, hospital-based operating room (OR) and ambulatory surgery center settings. Our expert team of anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) collaborate closely with nursing colleagues and specialists from the Departments of Surgery, Medicine and Radiology, among others, offering comprehensive care throughout the periprocedural periods.

Obstetric Anesthesiology

Having pioneered the use of epidural anesthesia for pain relief during childbirth and helped to launch obstetric anesthesiology as a subspecialty, our obstetric anesthesiologists remain key members of the labor and delivery teams, providing anesthesia for cesarean deliveries and pain relief during and after labor. Our team of experts works closely with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Women’s Health and the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine to ensure that expectant mothers with high-risk conditions receive comprehensive multidisciplinary care.

Pediatric Anesthesiology

Our team of pediatric anesthesiologists is committed to ensuring superior pre-, peri- and postoperative anesthesia care for children of all ages, from neonates to adolescents.

Preoperative Evaluation

At Montefiore Einstein Preoperative Evaluation, we are committed to the comprehensive preoperative evaluation of each surgical patient to help ensure the highest standards of patient safety. We have also designed a thorough, effective preoperative process to confirm that each patient is prepared for their procedure. Our Preoperative Evaluation team works with patients scheduled to undergo a variety of elective surgeries and procedures, offering both telehealth and in-person visits.

Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine

Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine is nationally recognized for providing comprehensive pre-, intra- and postoperative pain management for surgical patients using a combination of regional anesthesia techniques and multimodal therapies. Our Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship was among the first accredited programs of its kind in the nation.

Thoracic Anesthesiology

Thoracic Anesthesiology provides anesthesia services for patients with complex respiratory, pulmonary and thoracic conditions undergoing thoracic surgeries and interventional pulmonology procedures. Our thoracic anesthesiologists work closely with the Montefiore Einstein Divisions of Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Oncology and Interventional Pulmonology to ensure we provide the highest quality care throughout the periprocedural or perioperative period. Transplant Anesthesiology

The Transplant Anesthesiology team is a national leader, providing state-of-the-art anesthesia care in pediatric and adult kidney, pancreas, liver, lung and heart transplantation for adult and pediatric patients at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation—a Center of Excellence with some of the highest transplant survival rates in the United States. The Division of Transplant Anesthesia works in partnership with our transplant surgeons throughout the perioperative period to ensure the highest quality of care for patients undergoing transplantation surgery.
